 Abstract:  James Pinkerton and his wife Mary were residents of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, settling there in 1783. Their sons, Captain William Pinkerton and John Pinkerton, were farmers in Westmoreland County, but another son, David, migrated to Knox County, Ohio in the 1830s. The collection consists of correspondence, receipts, legal documents and military muster rolls. The collection consists primarily of sporadic correspondence between Pinkerton family members in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky. Included are some American Civil War letters with comments on the Union army, camp conditions, and opinions of the war.
